HUDSON, James Cottrell & JONES, Amy Annie

LINE

James Cottrell Hudson (3rd) was born 15 April 1895 in Bourke. He was the first child born to James Cottrell and his wife Victoria Prudence nee Brennan. He married Amy Annie Jones in 1921 and they had five children - all of them boys!

The first son of course they named after his father (and grandfather, and great grandfather!) - James Cottrail. (Well it's ALMOST the same - a slight variation in the spelling, but this could have been due to the distress suffered by the parents when their child died soon after birth.) Their baby boy was born on 14 November 1922 and lived only a matter of hours; he was christened in a private ceremony and buried privately the following day in Bourke Cemetery.

The birth of James Henry followed some time later, and next came Alan Brian born 26 May 1930. Noel Francis was born in Cobar on 27 January 1932 - he married Marie Helen Lamb in Cobar, NSW in 1956. James and Amy's youngest son Hugh Philip - was born on 4 October 1934 and married Sylvia Brown.

Electoral Roll entries give an insight into the movement (or lack of movement) of the family of James and Amy. It can be seen that between 1930 and 1954 they moved from Dunlop Station, Louth to Oxley Street, Bourke and then to Short Street, Bourke - James' occupation is shown as Mechanic from 1936 to 1954.
